Why This Tour is Different:
This isn’t your typical painting retreat. You’ll be accessing private lands, painting subjects rarely seen by others, let alone captured on canvas. The landscapes? Epic. The atmosphere? Unmatched. Think towering peaks, still waters, and the kind of peace that fuels real creativity.
“You’ll be painting some subjects no one has painted before!”
If you’re serious about taking your art to the next level and having an unforgettable adventure, this is for you!
Limited Spots Available
The last tour sold out in days, and I expect this one to go fast too. Only 10 spots per tour. If you’re keen, don’t wait!
About Me, Tisch...
About Me, Tisch...
I’ve been painting professionally for over 24 years, working full-time as an artist and teacher. My focus is on realism, capturing the natural world with depth and accuracy, but always with feeling. I’ve built my career around helping other artists take their work further, whether through online courses, workshops, or trips like this.
I’ve painted all over New Zealand, but there’s something special about these areas — and I want to share that with you.
This tour isn’t just about pretty places. It’s about learning, improving your skills, and experiencing what it’s like to paint out in the field with expert guidance and full support.
Support Crew
You already know me — I’ll be there with you throughout the tour, guiding, demonstrating, and helping you capture these landscapes on canvas.
Joining me is a dedicated, trained support crew, with local knowledge and the know-how to keep everything running smoothly. They’ll assist with logistics, help you set up, carry gear when needed, and make sure you’re comfortable and ready to paint. We’ll keep driving time short, so you can spend more time doing what you came for — painting.
Fitness and Accessibility
We’ve designed this tour for everyone. No hardcore hiking or climbing — we’ll drive to most of our spots, and the support crew will help carry your gear and get you set up. If you can walk reasonably well, you’re good to go. This is all about making sure any fitness level can take part, and focus on creating.
Extra Activities
If the weather’s on our side, here are some extra experiences you can take part in:
- Helicopter Flight – Take to the skies and get a bird’s eye view of the mountains. We can organize a chopper trip to see some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes from above — perfect for photos, inspiration, and just soaking it all in.
- Scenic Walks – For those who want to stretch their legs, there are some epic trails nearby. Join us for an optional hike, take in the views, and maybe even scout out your next painting spot.
- Photography Tours – Spend time gathering reference material that’ll last you a lifetime. We’ll explore some beautiful spots for photography, capturing light and landscape for future work.
(Please note: activities like the helicopter flight are an additional cost.)
The online academy is awesome, but nothing can top an in-person painting experience with Tisch. I gained so much confidence and further cemented my pursuit of painting. Met some wonderful new life-long friends! Tisch is an excellent teacher as you all know, and the crew were there to make sure everyone had what they needed. This tour was such a life-changing experience and highly recommend it to everyone!

The NZ Plein Air tour definitely gave me an experience I will never forget. I got incredible mini painting lessons from a phenomenal artist. Tisch is a great teacher. To top it all, I enjoyed breathtaking South Island scenery with great artist buddies from all over the world! This tour has once again become a must-do for me, and it should be for you too.

I think it is very rare to find an individual who is a) an incredible artist, b) a truly gifted teacher, and c) a wonderful person who loves people and the joy of sharing his knowledge to help everyone meet their art challenges and learn how to work through them. Andrew is one of these rare individuals.
He and his crew took such amazing care of us, sharing with us beautiful scenes to paint which few others get to experience.
Thank you so much! This was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget! I can’t recommend this tour enough! If you get the opportunity, take it!

I went into the tour with no plein air experience. The support and kindness Andrew gave me and every person on the tour helped me to build my confidence and take it at my own pace. Andrew has a wonderful coaching style and every time I felt a bit lost, Andrew would sense this and come over, sit with me and ask “What’s working, what do you love about this”.
A truly memorable experience, not only for the painting, the magnificent locations, but also the people you meet on the tour, fabulous accommodation, the fun and laughter and the inspiring conversations on the bus. Whether you’re an experienced painter or novice like me, you should do this tour.

We traveled around the world to reach New Zealand and take part in the Plein Air Tour with Andrew Tischler. It was a unique and extraordinary opportunity to meet a master and inspiring teacher, watch him create, learn from him, and paint outdoors in the beautiful natural environment of the South Island of New Zealand.
Andrew was with us the entire time, supporting both beginners and experienced painters, together with his dedicated, top-notch team.
An unforgettable experience and the most beautiful journey of a lifetime.
